Macedonian director Teona Strugar Mitevska, who is Torino37’s Jury member and has a retrospective in Festa Mobile section, received the European Parliament’s 2019 LUX Prize for her film Gospod postoi, imeto I’ e Petrunija, which was awarded to her by the president David Sassoli yesterday, November 27.
Speaking to the assembly’s plenary session in Strasburg, Teona Strugar Mitevska said, “Petrunya is a rebel. I was deeply touched by her resistance, her courage, and her search for justice. I am often criticized because my movies are too political; and they are. But I think it is my duty to raise my voice, to talk about problems nobody else dares to talk about in my country. How can we aspire for a better future otherwise? I am a woman, I am a Macedonian, and I am a European, and I firmly believe that the future of Europe means solidarity and inclusion.”
