Premio Gran Torino 2019’s awarding ceremony with Barbara Steele

Many will remember of her being Gloria, older Mario Pisu’s twentysomething lover, in 8 1/2 (1963) by Federico Fellini, others for the role of Teodora, sadomasochistic bizantine noble lady, in L’armata Brancaleone (1966) by Mario Monicelli, but it’s due to horror movies that Barbara Steele became a cult actress, such an icon of this genre to be the undisputed queen of TFF’s 2019 retrospective It Could Work! Working with Mario Bava, Roger Corman, Jonathan Demme, David Cronenberg and Joe Dante, she materialised, with her big eyes, sinuous figure and sharp features, the sensuality and mistery of those demonic and often fatal female characters who turned into her trademark in a long career. 37TFF will honour her with Gran Premio Torino 2019 Wednesday Nov. 27th, h. 8.15 pm, at Cinema Massimo at Sala Soldati, given by the hands of Gianni Amelio. After the ceremony La maschera del demonio (1960) by Mario Bava, one of the most beloved movies starring her, will be screened.
